A Disney Trip That Respects Your Budget

A week at Walt Disney World is one of the most expensive family vacations in the country. Hotels and meals can be trimmed, but park tickets are the cost nobody gets around, and for a family of five they add up fast.

That's where Disney's Military Salute comes in. For well over a decade, Disney has offered specially priced tickets and hotel rates as a thank-you to those who serve. In 2026, it added something new for America's 250th anniversary: the Disney Celebrates America Military Salute Ticket, which works like a year of park access for one fixed price.

One thing up front: Salute tickets are for active-duty and retired service members (including Guard and Reserve), their spouses with a valid military ID, and a few other groups covered below. Most veterans who did not retire don't qualify, but there are still good options for you, and we'll walk through them.

The Disney Celebrates America Military Salute Ticket

This is the headliner of the 2026 program. For $499 plus tax with the Park Hopper option, or $529 plus tax with Park Hopper Plus, you can visit Walt Disney World's four theme parks again and again through December 18, 2026.

The catch is simple and manageable: every visit needs an advance park reservation, which is a booking for a specific park on a specific day made in the My Disney Experience app or website. Celebrates America ticket holders can hold up to five reservations at a time. As you use one, you can book another, so a family living near Orlando, or one planning several trips, can keep a steady rotation going all year.

The ticket is generous, but it isn't an Annual Pass. It covers park admission only. It does not include parking, and it doesn't come with the dining and merchandise discounts or other perks Annual Passholders get. Budget for parking if you're driving in.

For families who will visit more than once, this ticket is hard to beat. Just keep the end date in mind: unused visits disappear after December 18, 2026.

The 4-, 5- and 6-Day Military Salute Tickets

If one trip is the plan, the classic Salute tickets may be the better fit. Each comes in two versions. Park Hopper lets you visit more than one theme park on the same day, after entering the park you reserved first. Park Hopper Plus adds a set number of visits to a Disney water park, golf course or mini-golf course, based on the ticket's length.

Here's the advantage many families miss. Regular Disney World tickets expire 14 days after first use. Salute tickets don't. You can use two days in March and come back for three more in October, as long as every visit falls before December 18, 2026, and outside the blockout dates.

Why It's One of the Best Military Travel Discounts

Plenty of companies offer a military discount. Few match this one on the things that matter to a family on a budget.

  • It covers the whole family, and then some. Each eligible member, or their spouse, can buy up to six tickets. They can go to children, grandparents or friends, not just the service member. One of the six must be used by the member or spouse.

  • It bends around military life. Because days don't expire two weeks after first use, the tickets work around leave approvals, PCS moves, drill weekends and deployments. If plans change, you have the rest of the year to use what's left.

  • It's tax-free on base. Buy at a participating base ticket office or Shades of Green and you skip the sales tax added at Disney's ticket windows. Base offices may also price the tickets below Disney's listed rates.

  • It stacks with the hotel discount. Salute tickets and Disney's separate military room offer can both be used on the same trip, which cuts the two largest costs of a Disney vacation.

  • It comes with extras. Eligible members can buy Memory Maker, Disney's package of digital ride and character photos, for $98, up to two times.

  • It's dependable. Disney has run some version of this program for well over a decade, usually announcing it each year around Veterans Day. That consistency means families can plan ahead with reasonable confidence.

How much will you save? That depends on your dates, because Disney's regular tickets are priced by day and season. Fixed Salute pricing tends to look best during busy, higher-priced periods. Compare against Disney's current ticket prices for your dates before you buy.

Who Qualifies, and an Honest Word for Veterans

Disney's terms extend Salute tickets and hotel rates to:

  • Active or retired members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Space Force

  • Active or retired National Guard and Reserve members

  • The Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service and NOAA

  • Spouses with a valid, active U.S. military ID, who buy in place of the member, not in addition

Two more groups are widely reported as eligible: 100% service-connected disabled veterans with DAVPRM on their military ID, and un-remarried surviving spouses with a valid military ID. Confirm with your base ticket office or Shades of Green before you buy.

Now the hard part. If you served honorably and separated without retiring, and you don't hold a qualifying military ID, you aren't eligible for Salute tickets. Many VTN readers fall into this group, and we know that's frustrating.

You still have options:

  • Shades of Green's ticket office sells regular military-discounted Disney tickets that veterans with an honorable DD-214 can generally use. The savings are smaller than Salute pricing, but they're real. Call to confirm current terms.

  • Shades of Green Resort, the Armed Forces Recreation Center hotel at Walt Disney World, welcomes non-retired veterans with an honorable DD-214 for stays in January and September.

How to Buy and Use the Tickets

  1. Buy from the right place. Participating base ITT/MWR offices and Shades of Green sell Salute tickets tax-free. You can also buy at Walt Disney World theme park ticket windows, where tax is added. No base nearby? Shades of Green and some base ITT offices take orders by phone or online. Base offices sometimes have to order tickets, so allow a few weeks.

  2. Link your tickets in My Disney Experience. This is Disney's free app and website for managing tickets, reservations and plans. Linking the tickets lets you make park reservations before you arrive.

  3. Book park reservations right away. Regular tickets no longer need them, but Salute tickets still do, and reservations set aside for this ticket type are limited. Lock in your dates as soon as the tickets are linked.

  4. Activate in person. Before first use, the eligible member or spouse must show valid military ID at a theme park ticket window or Guest Services; Disney Springs Guest Services works too. Bring everyone who will use the tickets. Tickets from Shades of Green may not need this step, so ask when you buy.

  5. Plan around the blockout dates. Salute tickets can't be used March 29 through April 11, 2026, or November 22 through 28, 2026.

Each ticket must be used by the same person every day, and tickets are nontransferable and nonrefundable.

Pair It With the Military Hotel Discount

Disney's 2026 military room offer covers stays most nights through December 18, 2026, at select Disney Resort hotels. Savings depend on the resort tier and season:

  • Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resorts: 25% off, rising to 30% from June 1 to August 31

  • Moderate resorts: 20% off, or 25% in summer

  • Value resorts and Fort Wilderness campsites: 15% off, or 20% in summer

Rooms are limited, some room types are excluded, and the military member or spouse must stay in the room and show ID at check-in. Eligibility matches the tickets. When booked as a package, the room offer can also combine with Disney's 2026 free dining plan for kids.

Plan Ahead for 2027

If you're eligible, have your military ID ready and buy early so you can lock in park reservations. Questions about eligibility, pricing or activation? Your base ITT office and Shades of Green handle them every day.

The 2026 tickets end December 18, 2026. Disney usually announces the next year's Salute around Veterans Day, so watch Disney's site and your base ticket office in November. The Celebrates America ticket was created for the nation's 250th anniversary, so it may not return. Disneyland runs its own Military Salute offer, and Disney Cruise Line offers military rates on select sailings; check Disney's sites for details.

Disney's offers, prices and eligibility rules change, so verify current terms with Disney, Shades of Green or your base ticket office before buying.
